What is Second Life?

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. It is the size of a small city, with thousands of servers called simulators. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total of 4,494,251 people from around the globe. Residents come to the world from over 100 countries with concentrations in North America and the UK. Demographically, 60% are men, 40% are women and they span in age from 18 - 85.
